Gasp! Shock!! Horror!!! Three years ago Prince Harry used two naughty words on a private video soundtrack. These words had racial connotations. The ‘News’ of the World is full of it and Sky ‘News’ last night was treating this ‘story’ as of almost as much if not more importance than the Gzaz horror or the Recession.
Harry was wrong to use such language and has apologised. But the ‘story’ raises some disturbing issues.
- Who/what was the provenance of this video? Whoever it was must have sat on this for 3 years waiting to sell it to a tabloid media organisation for money. What sort of person does that? A person without honour, in my opinion, and motivated by greed above all else. I hope he is proud of himself and that his parents are proud of him too.
- What sort of media not only rakes up and pays for stuff like this but then gives it prominence that might be justified if it was current, but hardly is when the story is 3 years old. The answer would seem to be News International and media owned by a certain Australian-American. I don’t know if NotW is part of his empire but Sky News sure is, as is Fox, which also carried the story.
- What is the motivation of the media involved and the people who control them? What possible good do they think they are doing by dragging up the youthful indiscretions of a young soldier (who has put his life on the line in Afghanistan, by the way)?
All involved – the source, the NotW and Sky News should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves. They won’t be, of course. This sort of thing sells papers, after all
